Short, because a document nobody reads protects nobody. Using the site means agreeing to what follows.

Your account

One account per person. Keep your password to yourself — anything done from your account is treated as done by you. You can delete it at any time.

What you post

You keep ownership of what you write. By posting it here you give VoteWire permission to display it on the site — that's all, and it ends for future display when you withdraw the comment or delete your account.

Nothing is removed for being wrong. Arguing that a bill is a disaster is the entire point. Things are removed for how they're said, and the rules list exactly what those are. Every removal is published in the log with the rule it broke, and you can appeal one.

Don't

• Post threats, harassment, or content targeting people rather than arguments.
• Impersonate a real person, a member of Congress, or an organization.
• Scrape, hammer, or attempt to break the site or other people's accounts.
• Run bots, vote rings, or multiple accounts to make a position look more popular.

Accounts that do these get suspended or banned, and that's published too.

What the data is, and isn't

Bills, roll calls, sponsorships and campaign finance come from public records and every figure links back to the filing it came from. It's aggregated by software, which means it can be wrong — a mis-parsed vote, a stale record, a name matched to the wrong committee. Check the source before you rely on it for anything that matters.

Where the site shows money beside a vote, it is showing that both happened. It is not claiming one caused the other, and you shouldn't either.

Election predictions are a game about public events. They are not betting, nothing is staked, and nothing is paid out.

No warranty

The site is provided as it is, without guarantees of accuracy or availability. It's run by one person and may go down, lose data, or change. Don't use it as your only copy of anything.

Not affiliated with anyone

VoteWire is independent. It isn't affiliated with the U.S. government, any party, campaign, candidate or advocacy organization, and it doesn't endorse any of them. A high match between your record and a member's is a description of two voting records, not a recommendation.

These terms may change; the date above will change with them. Continuing to use the site means accepting the current version.
